Mise-en-Scène
Mise-en-Scène is our fourth project that we are currently working on. It is also the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print and is scheduled to be exhibited at the museum in 2023.
Over a period of two years, we engaged in a long-distance dialogue exploring the ideas of the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a narrative. We made individual prints and objects and exchanged them through the mail, inspiring each other to investigate, contemplate, and experiment with this concept. On a designated month, deliveries of works by the other two artists arrived, and we each made an arrangement using the three prints and objects. Three exchanges occurred and each time, the number of objects grew, prompting each of us to rearrange and reconsider the scene that we had created in each of our studios. Our on-going and evolving arrangements are documented on our Instagram (@woodpaperbox) and in the accompanying zine. A hand-made byōbu (traditional Japanese screen) is included to allow an added exploration of space and narrative within the arrangements. All of these will be housed in a box.
